popular Phuket tiger bar and the seduction disco. All Soi are full with Thai bar girls and foreign tourists, there are also several night markets, tattoo parlors, restaurants and every imaginable and unimaginable nightlife.

Tom yum seafood and other tasty Thai special dishes bring your taste buds to life. But not only that, there are also  German, Austrian, Italian, French, Spanish, Indian, Chinese restaurants and so on - just name it and everyone is trying to make you happy if you come in. If you eat any salad check the leaves carefully before you put them into the mouth, it happen to me 3 times in the Pizza Company restaurant at Lotus Mall at Phuket town that I found a small bug and a small creeper in the salad, another strange thing there is, they use a dirty piece of cloth to wipe dirt from the floor and after they throw this dirty cloth onto the forks and spoons they bring the 

guests to eat. I told them several times they shouldn't do this, but they are absolute resistant to anything somebody tell them.

Also Indian food is very popular, but there is a very low level of knowledge how to make Indian food in Phuket, it looks like many people try to make quick money on subjects they don't understand. There are some good Japanese restaurants, probably the best is in the jungceylon shopping mall at the east end of Bangla Road. Also Arab restaurants, Russian restaurants and plenty of other are in close proximity.

A popular Phuket shopping destination is Jung Ceylon at Patong beach again with hundreds of shops, restaurants, bars and some daily entertainment at the huge center plaza with fountain games and a full size Chinese Junk.

The gated villa communities on Phuket - with villas from 10 million baht upwards – are mushrooming, prime locations are already sold out and now they start with big hotel and villa projects on the islands on the south of Phuket. Many traveler come to Phuket island from a radius of up to fife flight hours for the weekend golf. Many of them have their “golf apartment” at the golf course; there are many golf courses for every level of experience. The latest influx comes from Russia and parts of the former USSR who are now independent like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan etc. One place many tourists in Patong frequent is the Christine massage parlor, they do this very special Thai massage the guys are crazy after.

The air is still clean but the traffic is increasing exponentially since there is a shift going on among Thai people from north to the south of Thailand. In the north of Thailand plenty of people don't have a job and in the southern tourist regions lots of jobs are available, but in any case the infrastructure planning could be done somehow more sophisticated. Myriads of chaotic motocyc (Thaiglish for small motor scooter) are all over Phuket Island with a total absence of and any care about themselves and to the others leading to unbelievable accidents. Around 200.000 bad accidents are the result almost every year on Phuket Island. This tropical island has grown into a premier holiday destination in South East Asia and is one of the top travel destinations of Thailand. It probably has replaced Bali as the most popular holiday island in the region, in particular after the Bali bombings.

- What are Phuket islands attractions? One of the major attraction is prices are relatively low, beaches are great, accommodation have a good standard and the nightlife is fabulous, it can be a inexpensive vacation destination or a expensive one, its up to you. Phuket beach resorts, hotels,  and guesthouses can be found in all price price ranges. For sure much cheaper as compared Europe or other popular vacation destinations. Dining and drinks in restaurants, bars, clubs etc. are much less expensive then in places such as Singapore or Hong Kong who are partly even more expensive than many destinations in Europe US and elsewhere. There are plenty of other attractions in the area around such as Phang Nga Bay, to the east, Similan islands to the north etc.

Shopping in Phuket got more attractive since the Shopping Malls opened along the bypass road. There are several malls now in operation and new are popping up year by year. Going shopping in Phuket in the past was not very interesting since most of the shops offer the same stuff,  tailor made clothing and all this other textiles like t shirts etc. plus shows, handbags and dozens of other cheap goods. The latest opening is at Patong beach, its the Jung Ceylon shopping mall in Patong beach, actually there are not many cheap items, its rather catering to the up market level.

The Greek philosopher Ptolemy mentioned that if one travel to the south eastern part of Asia needs to pass a island called Junk Ceylon. For Junk Ceylon a location around the latitudes of 6 N and 8 N was indicated which conforms to present day Phuket. It seems that the Junk Ceylon was popular by its naturally protected bays. That is on the east side of the island, during the Tsunami all damages were done on the west coast of the island. Other early history records are from the beginning of the 11th century. The first inhabitants of what is now known as Phuket or Junk Ceylon as it was known during Portuguese and English colonial times were the sea gypsy’s, also known as Moken in Thailand and Salon in Myanmar or Burma. Sea gypsies seems to be a branch of the Negritos or Malay the indigenous inhabitants of South East Asia. An earlier mention of Junk Ceylon was in a book written in the year of 157 AD. The book was written by the Greek Claudius Ptolemy. In 1785 troops from neighboring Burma tried to invade Phuket island. Finally two women, the former governor’s widow, Chan, and her sister Muk organized to defend Phuket Island, the struggle with the Burmese lasted nearly a month. When the Burmese troops run out of supply they had to withdraw. After the King of Thailand bestowed upon them the noble titles of Thao Thep Krasattri and Thao Si Sunthon. A monument right in the middle of the round about at the Tha Ruea Intersection has been erected in memory of the two sisters. Everyday

you can see Thai people who place flowers and flower garlands plus incense sticks at the monument. During British colonial times the place was also known as Thalang, Thalang still exists as a district in the northern mid region of Phuket island. A legacy of that time are the Chinese and Thai style houses at Phuket town plus several excellent restored villas in Sino-Portuguese architecture at Phuket Town. The Mon of southern Myanmar were also also known as Thalangs, there are plenty of  interactions between Thailand and Myanmar or Burma. After the island became a leading tin mining place and lots of Chinese people came in to work in the mines, got rich, built fabulous villas in Sino-Portuguese architecture, some of the most beautiful created villas are still visible at Phuket Town Dibuk Street. - This tropical island in southern Thailand  is becoming more and more the yachting hub of south east Asia.

Its  all time more or less summer with 25° and 32°C throughout the year. With a excellent sailing infrastructure it's the ideal cruising base. With great panoramas in the limestone world of Phang Nga Bay top diving grounds around the island and
Ko Phi Phi plus the Similan and Surin archipelago, southern Thailand has something for everyone. Myanmar’s or Burma's  unexplored Mergui Archipelago is easily accessible to the north, you must call at Ranong and Kawthaung to enter.

The Krabi and the Trang archipelago are to the south and further south are the Tarutao Islands in the Marine National Park just about 5 km from the Malaysian island of Langkawi.

There are three international standard marinas, Yacht Haven Marina, Boat Lagoon Marina, Royal Phuket Marina, some more marinas are planned or under construction, all this is to facilitate Phuket travel.

Sailing holiday in Thailand climax in Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, attracts around 100 yachts and boats and is held in early December. Phang-Nga Bay Regatta, is at Chinese New Year, its the regatta with the most scenic background of any regatta in the world. Phuket Race Week starts in the windy month of July during the southwest monsoon.

- Phuket Kings Cup Regatta

was started in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand.

The Phuket Kings Cup Regatta is now Asia’s premier sailing and yachting event and held every year in the first week of December to commemorate His Majesty’s birthday on December 5th. Every year sail boats from all over Asia, Australia, Europe and other countries come to the island trying to find out who is the best in

different categories like sail boat racing / cruising, catamaran racing / cruising and more. Battles played out on Phuket's south west coast remind sometimes at the ancient marine battles between the English, French, Portuguese and Dutch.

The Kings Cup Regatta starts at Kata Beach at about 7 am.
